Goals
Freedom to Roam is an ongoing process that continues to develop goals through its Steering Team and working groups. The following are the broad goals for the initiative. The implementation of these goals continues to shift depending on ecological conditions on the ground and a constantly shifting political environment.
- Achieve deep recognition of corridors and connectivity amongst the North American public through media campaigns, coordinated messaging, significant outreach, and discussion of corridors and connectivity from new constituents such as major corporations.
- Engage major corporations in the campaign for connectivity and conservation.
- Create a national brand for connectivity projects where the value of those projects is articulated in broad terms of wildlife survival instead of regional habitat restoration projects. For example, if local conservationists described a grizzly habitat restoration project as consistent with the goals of the Freedom to Roam initiative, a concerned conservation supporter in Massachusetts could instantly recognize the value of that project.
- Support new and ongoing efforts to create local, state, and national policy change to facilitate the protection of wildlife movement corridors and catalyze corridor science that supports the broader effort.
